Samuel D. Loggans
August 19, 1936 To September 12, 2011
Mr. Samuel Davis Loggans passed away Monday, September 12, 2011
at. St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor.
He was born August 19, 1936 in Kingsport, TN
a son of David Eli and Syrilda Jane (Davis) Loggans.
On August 16, 1971 he was married to Linda Lee Munsey-Law
in Kingsport, TN moving to Michigan in 1972
and Sumpter Township in 1982.
Mrs. Loggans preceded him in death on July 15, 2011.
Mr. Loggans proudly served his country with the
U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer during the Vietnam Era,
receiving numerous citations and medals including 3 purple hearts.
He was a member of the U.A.W, American Legion Post 231,
the Sumpter Township Democratic Caucus, the Michigan Democratic Party,
President of Region 1-A Retirees for Ford, Chrysler, and G.M. (the Big 3),
Retiree Executive Board Member-at-Large of Local 735,
Head of Parks & Recreation for Sumpter Township,
V.P. of the Detroit Chapter of the State of Michigan Council
of Senior Citizens and numerous other Democratic endeavors.
Mr. Loggans was an avid Detroit Red Wings Fan.
However, above all else he was truly a kind and loving family man.
Prior to his retirement in 2001 he had been employed by General Motors
as an electrician with the Hydra-Matic Plant for many years.
Mr. Loggans is survived by his loving son, Samuel H. (Stephanie) Loggans.
Dear step-father of Robin Bowman, Steven (Shelia) Law,
Tony (Valicia) Law and Kim (Gerry) Bloodworth.
Fond brother of Luanne Teboe.
Grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
Preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held on
Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 10:30 A.M.
at the Higgerson & Neal Funeral Home,
209 Main St., Belleville (734-697-9400).
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 16, 2011
from 2 – 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
